Grade school math

November-The first graders are adding and subtracting numbers to 10 and working with the theme Food for 10, learning about food groups and healthful food, just in time for Thanksgiving!

K-4 has just adopted the McGraw Hill Math Series "Math in My World."  It's a wonderful series that develops problem solvers at all levels.

In 1st grade we study numbers to 100

-explore part-part-whole

-add

-subtract

-graph many different ways

-learn about shapes and fractions

-tell time to the hour and half-hour

-solve problems with pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters

-begin to explore 2-digit addition and subtraction

Daily they practice math skills with their calendar and each unit in our series has a real-life theme which connects to all other curriculum areas.  We think about, talk about, and do math activities daily for at least an hour.  They are becoming great problem solvers, says Karen Soliday.
