Spanish is officially recognized as the second language of the United States. Due to the large percent of Spanish speaking people living in the US Spanish is recommended for those planning careers in such areas as business, education, transportation, social work, law enforcement, journalism, communications and the medical field.

Spanish I is a two semester course that opens a new world to students as they learn about the language and culture of Spain, Latin America, and the Southwest United States. Students begin to develop basic skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the Spanish language. Among the many cultural topics studied are shopping in the market, Spanish fiestas and holidays, family life, the geography of the Spanish speaking world and travel.

Spanish II is a two semester course. Students who have successfully completed Spanish I are encouraged to continue their language development by enrolling in this course. Fundamental skills acquired during the first year of study are reviewed; and students continue to develop new skills through the use of written, audio and visual media.
