The Bat-Cam

Welcome to the Bat-Cam page!

This is a view inside our "research" bat house, located a few miles southwest of Spokane, Washington. There is a gray-scale QuickCam and a digital thermometer installed within the bat house so that we may monitor the interior conditions. We will periodically update this image as bats occupy the house during the summer. Check back frequently to see the changes from day to day.

What are you looking at?

The image below is typically a view upward and slightly to an angle into the interior of the two-chambered bat house. The bright light-colored streak down the center of the image is the plywood divider between the two chambers (a 3/4" chamber to the left near the exterior of the house, and a 1" chamber to the right). The grooves on the walls give the bats something to grip and allow them to move around easily within the house.

A single bat is located at the top of the right-side chamber.  It's a bit chilly at this time so it's taking advantage of the extra warmth towards the top of the house.
