Bat Exclusion

Oh my gosh!  There's a bat in the house!

Most people encounter bats when they become a significant annoyance in their lives.  Especially when the bats roost in one's home.  It is possible to safely exclude the bats, rather than exterminating the colony, so that these beneficial creatures can go on living somewhere else.

First, how do they get into a home?  The answer: anywhere there is a half- to one-inch opening!

The diagram above shows a number of entry points through which bats can enter a home.  Carefully inspect your house and consider closing the gaps during the late fall, when the bats have migrated away from their roost in your home.  It you want to begin your exclusion program earlier in the year, construct a "trap door" for the bats such as that illustrated below:

This diagram shows how to create a "trap door" for the bats so that they can emerge from their roost but can't get back in!  Have a bat house ready for them to occupy when you begin your exclusion program.
